“Half of a designer’s job involves soft skills.” I’m not sure who said that, but it’s so far proven to me to be true. Early in my career, I was naïve enough to believe Design is only about craft, the hard skills. Design practised in silo is far behind many of us. In its most basic form, a good design is the result of effective collaboration between the designer(s) and their client (or stakeholders) via a continuous feedback loop. A designer’s job, besides picking colours and kerning letters, is to facilitate the design through an iterative process. …
Time indeed does fly. It’s been almost a year since MakeStuffUp.Info launched, and we’re 8 resources away from 350 resources included on the site.
MakeStuffUp.Info started as an internal project, but then we thought this could be valuable for a lot more people. So we decided to share it publicly. Since then, we’ve served almost 800 people around the world.
As a niche site, your support — either through reading this newsletter, visiting MakeStuffUp.Info now and then, or telling your friends about us (we hope you do 😉); is the most significant source of motivation for us to continue working…
The Covid pandemic has undoubtedly changed the world; how we live & work. The tech industry’s working structure is getting flatter than ever. More & more companies let their employees work from home or be more flexible with how work is being done. As a result, we’ve become more reliant on digital tools. Digital Proficiency has been said to be one of the most valued skills in the next decade.
MakeStuffUp.Info was initially created to help designers & digital makers create the digital space, so we can all benefit from a healthier & more equitable digital world.
We hope the…

Airtable is not a new player in tech, but new to our collection. Founded in 2012, Airtable aims to provide the flexibility that anyone can take advantage of their business. Described by the company as a spreadsheet with the power of a database (and they’re not kidding), you use Airtable to build CRMs, manage any projects…
Services such as 23andMe have gained such popularity in recent years that they have raised $82.5 million in early December 2020, even though layoffs have happened earlier in the year. In October 2012, Ancestry.com, another popular DNA testing company (who has been profitable since 1996!) was sold for $1.6 billion. The global interests in the horoscope, dated back thousands of years, further confirm our shared obsessions over where and when we come from, and the meanings of such information. …
So far, 2021 hasn’t been the year of good news as everyone hoped. The pandemic & the civil struggles in America continue to affect a vast majority of people. For our community members who are residing in the US, we hope you’re staying safe & continuing fighting for the good fight of an equal & equitable society. For now, we can at least celebrate Trump being banned from most of the internet.

Ruined By Design by Mike Monteiro seemed particularly apt to be Good Stuff of January 2021. Published in 2019, the book reflects how…
What a year it has been! 2020 was HARD. Time Magazine even rated 2020 “the worst year ever”. Like most people, I had a turbulent year, and yet, 2020 was also one of the most transformative years I’ve experienced so far. Besides everything else that was taking place in the world, I made the leap over to the freelancing territory; not just after hours, but full-time self-employed. What a year I’d picked! But, I am here, surviving (barely). That’s a win, a big win.
Don’t get me wrong, I did go through precisely 1 burnout and a very few depressive…
